Please understand that with proper care, these can produce over 2,000 African Nightcrawlers.
Cocoons can be easily hatched indoors, so come
springtime, you will have a whole bunch of worms!
If you've never tried African Nightcrawlers, you've missed out on a GREAT worm.

To ensure your cocoons would be safe during delivery, the cocoons will come packed in organic compost with worm feed (sufficient food for approximately two weeks). We also moistened the cocoons. Thus, they will have plenty of food (in case they hatch early) and sufficient moisture in case of any delays during transport.

The cocoons are opaque, oval-shaped to a small point at each end, and very small – not much bigger than 1/8” in diameter. Because the cocoons are moist, the soil particles will stick to them, making them look like the particles of dirt. They will be difficult to see.

Worm cocoons hatch within 2-3 weeks when the soil temperature reaches 70 degrees. Baby worms are small and whitish-pinkish when they leave the cocoon. Each cocoon egg produces approximately 4 worms. Within 2-3 days, they begin to change color to eventually match their soil surroundings. In a short 3 months, they will begin to reproduce a second generation of cocoons. Each worm produces approximately 38 cocoons annually.

Please understand, cocoons hatch when provided the right environment (dampness and approximately 70 degree temps). The more optimum the environment, the higher the hatch rate. Just as we cannot be responsible for worm shipments beyond the initial delivery, we cannot be responsible for how the cocoons are raised once they are received. Water the bedding until damp and keep it moist. Worms require moisture to breathe. If the bedding dries out during the first month, you could lose some of your hatched worms.
